Boree Regatta

The younger sections from 1st Caringbah joined nearly a thousand young people and leaders for the annual region Boree Regatta. The cubs, scouts and venturers were camping and the joeys joined them for the day on Saturday.

This year’s theme was Pirates and activities included raft building, raft decorating, canoe racing, billy carts, sand castle building and of course, the knot challenge in which Kara and Bella swept the board for 1st Caringbah.

As well as her success in the knot challenge, Bella was also presented with her Australian Scout Medallion and the rest of the group helped here to celebrate with a fantastic cake.

Our own Jack, along with the venturers win, was jointly given the BP award for his part in going the extra mile to help make Boree a spectacular event – in this case, by stepping in to take on the Venturer program at the last minute.

We took away a number of shields and certificates for placing well in several other events.

There were, of course, many other groups who took away honours. Each of them was recognised by the crowd as they were presented their trophies by Kooka, the Port Hacking District Commissioner and lead organiser of the Boree event.

Thanks to all of the leaders who camped with the young people and looked after them for the weekend. Thanks also to the parents who helped with setting up the tent, cooking for the weekend and packing it all up at the end.
